Metallurgical Fire At first I liked this less than the debut but it’s actually really good, though quite different. Atmospheric metal fans would do well to invest in them both. Really strong keyboards, synths, etc. on both releases.
Favorite track: The Forgotten.

H.L. The debut "Driftig through the Aurorae" was one of my favourites in 2017: Dark, atmospheric and fresh with some very intense songs. "Winter Lights" follows the same path with the same ingredients: Buzzing guitars, distorted screams and lots of keyboard layers and ambient atmosphere. Only the priorities have slightly changed. Today, the tinkling keyboards are more dominant and that is why I prefer the debut with its undergound atmosphere. Nevertheless: A good release! Favorite track: Of Mountains and Tranquil Skies.

From atmospheric black metal artist Skyborne Reveries comes the second album ‘Winter Lights’. Hailing from Australia, this one-man project combines harrowing shrieks with sombre keys and wistful melodies to create a soundscape that is not to be missed by fans of Windir or Eldamar.

‘Winter Lights’ explores similar themes to the band’s debut album ‘Drifting Through the Aurorae’; an idea of ‘ascending’ to a dreamlike realm and becoming one with the natural forces of the world. Also dealing with the concept of regretfully leaving memories behind, ‘Winter Lights’ is perfect for a misty winter’s day or in the nostalgic afterglow of a dream.

This style of black metal often misses the mark with me, but Sojourner pulls it off very well. Empires of Ash contains heaviness and beauty, while not overdoing the elements of epic black metal that can come across as cheesy in other releases. The female vocals are a nice touch. Metallurgical Fire
