I already like "an Gorta Mór" a lot and "In the Land of Ghosts" continues that successful path. The album contains sharp melodic black metal with gnarled vocals, telling dark ghost stories and adding a well fitting folkloric touch with occasional use of flutes or bagpipes. The result is epic, sometimes majestic and has a timeless, dense atmosphere, just listen to "Greyfriars Kirkyard", "Killiecrankie" or "Isobel". The organic, slightly rough sound fits also very well. Very understated black metal, a highlight for me as Northern Silence appears to have halted its spate of top-end albums for a few years going; for fans of Tardigrada, Coldworld and Elderwind.
