"Blackness in May - Promotional EP" is a single from the upcoming album "Cruel Words" with three exclusive songs, in order to promote this said album. More than twenty five minutes of emotional music, in which Déhà drowns the listener in a pure soulripping mood, filled up with the emotions he is now known for. A super heavy mixture of depressive music drenched with the power of atmospheric sludge doom metal music. This EP includes as well a beautiful piano & voice version of a song to be featured on "Cruel Words", showcasing Déhà's vocal range from whispered singing to cracking, powerful depressed singing. Also, a personal favourite song of the musician was covered through an amazing, immensely heavy version of "Saturnine" of Dutch band The Gathering - and while it is not easy to mimic the angelic voice of Anneke, Déhà took the song and made it his own : emotion and power as main feelings, on a downtempo version of this fantastic song. At last but not least, "Comfort me II" is an astonishing power ballad he decided to record as a bonus, knowing he still keeps somewhere the original version (and the first part!) well hidden. It is not an easy EP to listen to, as almost all of his works. It rips open the heart and let all emotions out, whether it is through melodies or insane screams. "Blackness in May" is just a taste of "Cruel Words", a milestone in the musician's discography lasting more than fifty minutes. Expect it in 2019.

This is very melodic blackened death, and while I generally enjoy the more crushing and fierce forms of blackened death metal, this is quite good. The album has a lot of great riffs and fits together well. It also has more energy than many melodeath or melodoom offerings. Metallurgical Fire
